About Vento

What Vento is

Vento is for people who want to learn a language and do not know how to start. It uses Foreign Service Institute courses — the public-domain lessons US diplomats trained with — and keeps the method those books were built on: a dialogue, then repetition, then pronunciation.

Fifteen languages, and the lessons that exist

The catalogue has fifteen languages, including Hijazi, Egyptian, and Levantine Arabic, plus French, Spanish, German, Greek, and Mandarin. Lesson counts follow the ingested units, not a round “100+”. Vento is not affiliated with the State Department, and the class-hour figures on the course pages are that department’s full-time classroom numbers, not a promise that you will finish on a phone.

Why Vento?

  • Zero Friction: No levels to unlock, no “hearts” to lose. Just learning.
  • Saved lessons: Download a lesson's text and audio, then play them without a connection.
  • Pronunciation feedback: In your browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari). Chrome may send the audio to its speech service, so this is not on-device or private.
  • Public Domain: We believe world-class education should be accessible to all.
"The most rigorous material ever created, now in the palm of your hand. Learn with the rhythm of the wind."
